Local History & Archives (LHA) of the Mooresville Public Library serves as the recorded memory of the Town of Mooresville and its surrounding communities and as such is an important part of the community, providing cultural, historical, and genealogical resources and materials. . The types of materials that make up this recorded memory include letters, organizational and business records, Town records, photographs, artifacts, memorabilia, publications, and other documents in various formats. LHA chronicles the development and evolution of Mooresville, and it is essential to the educational mission of LHA to tell an inclusive, responsible, and historically accurate story. 

We provide community members with opportunities to “make the past present” by helping them connect with local history and discover their family stories by exploring primary source materials in our reading room, or by accessing our online digital collections.

Local History & Archives (LHA) staff aim to describe archival materials in a manner that is respectful to the individuals and communities who create, use, and are represented in the collections we manage. However, for a variety of reasons, users may encounter offensive or harmful language. For example, some of the more traditional standardized subject headings for searching in our catalog are outdated and harmful. In addition, some materials in our collections, which are a part of the cultural and historical record, may contain offensive language, imagery, or stereotypes. They do not represent the views or values of LHA staff.

While these primary source materials remain available and unaltered to preserve an honest account of our history, we are committed to making reparative changes to descriptive language (e.g., search terms) to better reflect our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. As terminology evolves over time, this will be an ongoing process and we welcome your assistance.
