In a briefing on September 22, Governor Roy Cooper announced a $40 million relief program designed to help offset costs such as rent, mortgage interests, and utility bills for small businesses that weren’t able to open or operate normally due to COVID-19.
The N.C. Mortgage, Utility and Rent Relief (MURR) could provide up to $20,000 in relief funds for qualifying business locations. Applications to the program will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis and businesses must offer proof that they were closed during the period from April 1-July 31, that they are able to operate after the pandemic has passed, and that they have not been reimbursed by any other federal source.
