Changes to Town Water and Sewer Deposits

As of February 1, the Town of Mooresville will be changing the required deposit amounts for new water and sewer customers or those transferring their services within Town limits.

Previously, the Town determined the amount of required deposit according to whether customers rented or owned their home, with renters paying a $50 deposit. Now, any required deposit will be administered to both owners and renters and will be based instead on the customer’s credit history, with a possibility of no deposit required, $100, or $200.

Customers are not required to submit a social security number at the time of their application, but if a valid social security number is not disclosed, the required deposit will be $200. If a deposit is required, the customer will receive a letter at the time of their application, explaining the deposit decision.

Businesses will be subject to the same newly established deposit fees as residents. If the business is in the name of an individual and a social security number is submitted, the deposit will be based on the individual’s credit history. Otherwise, the required deposit will be $200.

The new deposit amounts were approved by the Town Board during their January 7 meeting.
